One of the latest steps is the launch of a special internet domain .ai.id, which is aimed at companies, startups, research institutions, communities and AI industry players in the country.
The presence of this domain is an important momentum in strengthening Indonesia’s digital identity amidst the rapid development of global AI technology.
Not only does it function as a website address, the .ai.id domain is also expected to become a symbol of credibility and trust for various organizations operating in the field of artificial intelligence.
The launch of the .ai.id domain is the result of collaboration between Korika (Artificial Intelligence Industrial Research and Innovation Collaboration) and PANDI or the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager.
Indonesia Wants to Have Its Own AI Identity
Over the past few years, many Indonesian startups and technology companies have used the .ai domain to show their business focus on artificial intelligence technology.
However, not many people realize that the .ai domain is actually the country code for Anguilla, a small territory in the Caribbean.
This condition is considered less than ideal considering that the Indonesian AI industry is developing very rapidly. Korika believes that it is time for Indonesia to have its own digital identity that directly represents national AI developments.
With the presence of this domain, local AI startups, research institutions and domestic technology developers now have a more relevant platform to show their identity at the international level.
Support Indonesia’s Target to Become Southeast Asia’s AI Powerhouse
The launch of .ai.id is also part of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy which targets Indonesia to become one of the largest AI development centers in the Southeast Asia region by 2030.
This potential is quite large. Based on the Indonesia AI Report 2025, around 45 percent of business actors in Indonesia have started to adopt AI technology. The growth in usage even reached 47 percent compared to the previous year.
These figures show that the need for a digital ecosystem that supports AI development is increasingly important. It is hoped that the .ai.id domain can become one of the foundations for building trust while strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global technology industry.
Apart from that, this domain also has the potential to become a new standard for AI-based services in Indonesia, as the .gov.id domain is synonymous with government agencies and .ac.id is used by universities.
How to Register a .ai.id Domain
For companies and individuals interested in using the .ai.id domain, the registration process is carried out in stages via the official domain.ai.id website.
The first stage is the Sunrise Period which runs from June 2 to July 2 2026. This phase is specifically intended for official trademark owners who want to protect their brand identity.
Next there is the Grandfather phase which will take place from 13 July to 13 August 2026. This stage is intended for active .id domain owners who want to secure the .ai.id version of their domain name.
After that, the public can take part in the Landrush phase which opens from 24 August to 24 September 2026. At this stage, domain names that are considered strategic can be obtained through a premium price scheme.
Meanwhile general registration or General Availability will start on October 5 2026. In this phase all people can register the .ai.id domain through the official PANDI registrar on a first come, first served basis.
If more than one party wants the same domain name, the determination process will be carried out through an open auction mechanism.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm.
